Monuments
We staggered out of Las Placitas and hit the Metro to the
Smithsonian Station on the Mall. From there,
we hiked over to the Washington Monument, then down the Reflecting Pool
to the Lincoln Memorial.

This
was my first visit to the new World War Two
Memorial, located at the
east end of the Reflecting Pool.

From there, we went to see if Abe was home.

He was. As usual, he didn't say much.

We also visited the Vietnam Memorial.
For whatever reason, we decided
not to return to the
Smithsonian Station and
instead hiked across the Memorial Bridge into Virginia, where
we thought
we could pick up the Metro at Arlington National Cemetery. WRONG.
The Arlington Station closes at dark, and I knew this...or at least I
used to. So instead of hiking back across the river to DC, we
thought, "Hey,
lets just walk back to the hotel in Rosslyn...in the
dark....through a cemetery..."
Nothing happened, but it was still a little freaky.

We did get a chance to see the Iwo Jima Memorial all lit up.
Next....the
Holy of Holies (and the Holy of Holies Annex)
